What is Nowsy?
Nowsy is a location-based social app designed for spontaneous, real-world meetups. You turn on "I'm Open" mode, discover people nearby who are also open, send a meetup request, and if they accept — you're matched and can start chatting.
Is Nowsy free?
Yes, completely. Every feature in Nowsy is free to use. There are no subscriptions, no paywalls, no in-app purchases, and no hidden fees.
How is Nowsy different from other dating apps?
Nowsy is built around real-time, spontaneous connections — not endless profile browsing. You only see people who are actively open to meeting right now, in your physical vicinity. It's designed for quick, authentic encounters rather than long-term profile-matching.
What age do I need to be to use Nowsy?
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use Nowsy.
I'm Open Mode
How does I'm Open mode work?
When you activate I'm Open, your profile becomes visible to other users nearby who are also in I'm Open mode. You choose a time window of 1, 2, or 4 hours. When the time expires — or when you manually close it — you disappear from the map entirely.
Can people see my exact location?
No. Other users only see your approximate distance (e.g., "0.4 miles away"), not your precise GPS coordinates. Your exact location is never shared with other users.
What happens when I close I'm Open mode?
You immediately vanish from the map. Other users can no longer see you or send you meetup requests. Any existing matches and conversations remain active.
Can I be visible to some users but not others?
Not currently. I'm Open mode is all-or-nothing — when it's on, any nearby user in I'm Open mode can see you. You can use the age and distance filters to narrow who appears in your own discovery feed.
Meetup Requests & Matching
How do meetup requests work?
When you see someone nearby, you can view their profile and send them a short meetup request message. They'll receive a notification and can accept or decline. If they accept, you're matched and a chat opens between you.
What happens if my request is declined?
Nothing happens — no notification is sent to you about a decline, and the other user doesn't show up in your feed again during that session. Rejections are handled discreetly.
Can I send requests to multiple people at once?
Yes. You can send requests to multiple nearby users simultaneously. Matches are established independently for each accepted request.
How do I unmatch with someone?
Open the chat with that person, tap the menu (three dots) at the top right, and select "Unmatch." The chat and connection will be removed for both users.
Privacy & Safety
Who can see my profile?
Only users who are in I'm Open mode and within your selected distance can see your profile. If I'm Open is off, you are completely invisible.
Is my data sold to third parties?
No. We never sell your personal data to advertisers or other third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I block someone?
Open their profile or the chat window, tap the menu (three dots), and select "Block." Blocked users cannot see your profile or contact you.
How do I report abusive behavior?
You can report a user directly from their profile or from the chat window. Use the three-dot menu and select "Report." You can also use our Bug Report & Feedback page to contact us directly.
Is messaging end-to-end encrypted?
Messages are encrypted in transit using TLS. We are actively working on end-to-end encryption for a future update.
Account & Settings
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. This will permanently delete your profile, photos, and all associated data. This action cannot be undone.
Can I change my phone number?
Yes, you can update your phone number from the Settings screen. A verification code will be sent to your new number.
Why do you need my location?
Location is the core of Nowsy — it's what lets you discover and connect with people nearby. Location access is only used actively when I'm Open mode is enabled.
The app isn't working — what should I do?
First, try force-closing and reopening the app. Make sure you have the latest version installed. If the issue persists, please submit a bug report through our Bug Report & Feedback page.
